Who We Are

The Gulf Geek is an independent publication covering life in the United Arab Emirates — transport, visas, government services, travel, jobs, and the practical details that residents and visitors actually search for.

We started because getting a straight answer about anything administrative in the UAE is unreasonably hard. Official pages are scattered across a dozen portals, half the blog posts you find are years out of date, and the fee that mattered changed last March. So we do the legwork: check the source, note the date, and write it down plainly.

What We Cover

Transport — Dubai Metro stations, intercity bus routes, timings, fares, parking
Visas & Residency — entry permits, renewals, overstay fines, visa-free travel for UAE residents
Government Services — fine payments, licence applications, official procedures
Travel & Attractions — parks, beaches, hidden spots, family destinations across all seven emirates
Work & Business — job markets, salary expectations, company setup, VAT registration

How We Work

We check primary sources. Fares, timings and fees come from operator and government portals — RTA, ICP, MOHRE, FTA and the relevant emirate authority — not from other blogs.

We date our claims. Anything time-sensitive carries the year it applies to. UAE rules change often, and a guide that doesn’t say when it was accurate isn’t much use.

We revisit published work. When a fare changes or a procedure is replaced, we update the article rather than leaving it to rot.

We tell you when we’re not sure. If a detail varies by case or an authority hasn’t published a figure, we say so instead of filling the gap with a confident guess.

What We’re Not

We’re not a government body and we’re not affiliated with any UAE authority. We don’t process applications, and we can’t intervene in your case. For anything binding — a visa decision, a fine, a legal deadline — confirm with the relevant official channel. We’ll always point you to it.
